Birmingham City University is a large and diverse place to study right in the heart of the city and we are currently looking to appoint a Student Recruitment and Engagement Assistant who will take on a fast-paced and varied role working in the Student Recruitment team in our Marketing and Communications department.

We are looking for a Student Recruitment and Engagement Assistant to help tell Birmingham City University’s exciting story of transformation to a range of prospective student audiences and influencersYou will join a team set up to deliver a recruitment strategy that aims to build great relationships with schools and colleges, developing existing partnerships and forging new links across the region and beyond. 

We want talented and enthusiastic applicants, ideally familiar with providing guidance to young people about higher education, and extremely comfortable with public speaking. You will be a big part of ensuring we deliver great events, on and off campus, such as Open Days, Applicant Taster Days and recruitment fairs across the country.

You will be an important member of the Student Recruitment team, working closely with the rest of the Marketing and Communications Department – including colleagues based in faculties, as well as our Campaigns, Communications and Admissions teams.

Your primary responsibilities will be:

  • Delivering on and off campus recruitment activity and ensuring talks and events are exciting, purposeful and innovative which assist in raising aspirations for young people and the awareness of the University.
  • Supporting with the delivery of a compelling programme of subject level engagement activities with recruitment audiences.
  • Attending key recruitment events such as Open Days, Applicant Taster Days and recruitment fairs across the country to provide information, advice and guidance to prospective students and parents/carers.
  • Looking after our thriving Student Ambassador programme, working on the recruiting, training and payment of our Student Ambassadors, and leading them on some of our key recruitment events, such as Open Days and Clearing.
  • Supporting the team with administrative tasks where required on a range of projects and activities. 
  • Maintaining up-to-date records of recruitment activity to ensure reporting of key data in a timely fashion, as well as looking after inboxes and dealing with enquiries.

Skills and Experience:

  • A good honours degree or equivalent.
  • Previous experience and strong passion for working with young people and other key audience groups including mature learners, parents or carers, teachers and careers advisers. 
  • High levels of personal presentation and ambassadorial qualities. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. 
  • Good presentation skills, covering small and large audiences. 
  • Able to prioritise own work effectively and work on own initiative. 
  • Good attention to detail and accuracy. 
  • Able to demonstrate an organised approach to work. 
  • High level of numeracy and literacy. 
  • Flexible approach and committed attitude to work.
  • Ability and aptitude to learn new skills quickly. 
  • Computer literature, proficient in Microsoft Office including excel spreadsheets and databases. 
  • Awareness of safeguarding.
