- THE ROLE -

We seek to appoint a Research Associate to work on a “5G Film Anywhere” project funded by DSIT as part of the Belfast 5G Innovation Region (5GIR) programme. Ulster University has one of the UK’s leading Film and Virtual Production facilities, and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work within high-tech environments at Studio Ulster and Ulster University to unlock the potential of 5G technology for remote Virtual Production.

In this project, we aim to develop an end-to-end solution for remote Virtual Production by combining 5G technology and a new innovative codec solution to achieve real-time, high-capacity radio links between on-location filming and production studios. They will develop hybrid multimedia algorithms and compression techniques for efficient 5G video transmission, focusing on immersive video, resource utilisation, and low-latency processing.
