MRC Postdoctoral Research Scientist - Lymphocyte Development (3 Years)

MRC Laboratory of Medical Sciences

A 3 year postdoctoral position is available at the MRC Laboratory of Medical Sciences (LMS) to work in the Lymphocyte Development group headed by Professor Matthias Merkenschlager. This position is expected to be filled by the successful candidate from December 2024. The LMS is a world-class research laboratory where scientists and clinicians collaborate to advance the understanding of biology and its application to medicine. Funded by the MRC as part of UK Research and Innovation, the LMS has a collaborative working culture and new state-of-the-art building based in the heart of West London in the Hammersmith Hospital Campus.

This project will focus X-linked competition, a newly discovered process by which X-chromosome sequence variation alters organismal development and skews the expression of X-linked sequence variants in a cell-type-specific manner (Buenaventura et al., 2024, Nature Genetics, published online 26th July, DOI 10.1038/s41588-024-01840-5). X-linked competition is unique to XX individuals and appears distinct from other known forms of cell competition that eliminate unfit cells from the developing organism

The successful candidate must hold a PhD or equivalent. Expertise in the biology of cohesin / CTCF and computational skills would be a substantial advantage. The successful candidate will have the ability to develop and apply new concepts, have a creative approach to problem solving, and will be able to write clearly and succinctly for publication.
