Set within UCL’s Faculty of The Built Environment, The Bartlett School of Environment, Energy and Resources (BSEER) is comprised of four world-class Institutes exploring from a multidisciplinary perspective, interlinked domains of Energy, Environment, Resources and Heritage.

About the role

The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will be conducting research regarding the identification and assessment of decarbonisation and Circular Economy policies and designing integrated modelling frameworks of the low carbon and circular transitions. The project will explore the synergistic effects and potential trade-offs between circularity and decarbonisation pathways, both from an analytical and modelling perspective, with a focus on key sectors, such as steel, cement and plastics. The candidate will contribute to a core task of a Horizon Europe project Transience working collaboratively within a team led by Dr Teresa Domenech. The position holder will have primary responsibility for conducting a combination of tasks that will entail both policy analysis and material and economic modelling in collaboration with colleagues and our European project partners. This post is available immediately and is funded for 24 months in the first instance, further funding to support the post may be available.

About you

The ideal candidate is a quantitative, analytical and policy-oriented person, with a good knowledge of Circular Economy and energy/ climate change issues, familiarity with data analysis and data manipulation, and a keen interest in sustainable resources, the circular economy and multi- disciplinary research. The ideal candidate has a PhD in a relevant related topic connected to sustainable resources and industrial decarbonisation and has a solid quantitative background and commitment to high quality research. Previous experience in circular economy modelling would be desirable.
