The Microsoft Platform Services team within IT Services at the University of Oxford is seeking a skilled Systems Administrator with a strong background in Windows administration and a passion for delivering excellent customer service. About the Role

  • As a Systems Administrator, you will play a crucial role in managing our extensive server estate. Your responsibilities will include monitoring and maintaining server infrastructure, addressing escalated third-line tasks and incidents, and collaborating with a senior technical team to enhance your skills in Windows server administration.
  • This role offers a unique opportunity to gain deep insights into managing a large and complex IT environment.
  • While this position is advertised at Grade 7, we welcome applications from candidates who may not currently meet all the criteria but have the potential to develop into the role. In such cases, the post may initially be offered at Grade 6, with a clear development plan to progress to Grade 7 within 12-24 months.

About You

We are looking for someone with:

  • Proven expertise in Microsoft systems administration, particularly Windows Server.
  • A strong desire to develop an advanced understanding of Microsoft Windows server systems and Azure.
  • Experience in scripting and automating tasks using languages such as PowerShell.
  • A solid understanding of TCP/IP networks and system security, reliability, and availability considerations.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to present complex technical concepts clearly and produce accurate documentation.
