The role

This is an exciting opportunity to provide effective administrative support to the newly awarded Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Engineering Biology. The postholder will work closely with the CDT Manager, the school’s student support team, academic and professional services staff holding key roles, the University of Oxford (the centre’s partner institution) and the centre’s external partners. The role acts as a first point of contact for enquiries, and as a liaison point for all relevant internal and external contacts.

Engineering Biology (EngBio) is a flagship multidisciplinary research area at the University of Bristol, and the CDT is funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC). The CDT programme is run jointly with the University of Oxford. 

Please note, this is a part-time opportunity, offering 17.5 hours per week, with fixed funding until August 2029.

What will you be doing?

  • The postholder will be a member of the CDT team and the main point of contact for enquiries from current students, applicants, and key CDT contacts. You will be working in-person in a busy office environment at the University of Bristol.
  • You will provide executive support to senior CDT members and assist in student activities, such as interview days, open days, training opportunities, and our EngBio CDT Summer School. 
  • You will handle confidential material, such as student records, with appropriate care, including generating confidential documents and exercising due care to the transfer and storage of such information.
  • You will deal with taught unit administration which includes arranging progress monitoring and preparing marks for exam boards using local and University provided systems.
  • You will also be responsible for purchasing goods and services, arranging travel and accommodation for students attending events and conferences, raising requisitions and purchase orders.
  • You will be involved in maintaining our internal and external facing websites.

You should apply if

  • We are looking for someone who can demonstrate their ability to deliver exceptional customer service with excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • You should be able to prioritise and manage your workload in a busy environment and apply yourself to a variety of tasks.
  • Good computer skills with experience working with Excel, Word and MS Outlook is necessary.
  • You should be able to demonstrate fluent written and verbal communication skills and be comfortable liaising with applicants, students, and staff across the University and with our key partners.
  • Experience with University systems (including eVision, myERP, Sharepoint) and experience working in higher education and/or postgraduate research (PGR) is desirable.
