Annual Leave: 25 days plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year

Location: College Lane Campus, Hatfield 

Biodet is a UKAS accredited commercial laboratory run within Life Sciences at the University of Hertfordshire.  The lab provides expertise in water, food and environmental microbiology to local industry, and over 40 years has accumulated a firm base of loyal customers. 

Main duties and responsibilities

There is a vacancy for one full time microbiologist to work from October 2024 supporting the commercial operations of the laboratory. Providing the Biodet team with laboratory and administrative support, the Microbiologist will be trained in all major lab testing procedures, as well as key aspects of the Quality System, and will support Biodet management in duties such as receiving samples and the reporting of results. 

Skills and experience required

The candidate should be self-motivated and reliable in their work, concentrating on maintaining the laboratory quality system and processing samples in the lab. 

  • Duties include performing routine microbiological tests
  • Supporting the preparation of laboratory media, and other general lab duties
  • Recording of test and calibration data
  • Responsible for laboratory security
  • Offering administrative support within the Biodet laboratory quality system

Qualifications required

The successful candidate will have a minimum of a degree in microbiology or a related discipline.
