The Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence (CFI), University of Cambridge, is seeking a Research Assistant to contribute to research, publishing and outreach on the ethics of AI, data and algorithms with Dr Claire Benn. This is a fixed term post for which funding is available for 12 months in the first instance.

CFI is a highly interdisciplinary research centre addressing the challenges and opportunities posed by artificial intelligence (AI), in both the short and long term. CFI is based at the University of Cambridge, with partners in Imperial College London, and UC Berkeley, and close links with industry and policymakers. More information is available at: https://www.lcfi.ac.uk/

The Research Assistant will support Dr Claire Benn with a range of tasks related to research project development, research process, publication and dissemination. This could include literature reviews and summaries, proofreading, locating relevant examples, and providing general support on a range of research related matters, including organising events. Dr Benn's research covers a wide-range of areas, with a focus on philosophy and interdisciplinary perspectives on current and emerging technology, including work on deepfakes, democracy, machine ethics, human-robot interactions, aesthetics, normative ethics, epistemology, autonomy and design.

Applicants should have, or be studying for, a postgraduate qualification in a field relevant to the ethics and AI, data and algorithms (ideally with some background in philosophy). All applicants should be able to demonstrate strong motivation in line with the goals of CFI, as well as capacity to work independently and conduct high quality research in collaboration with others. The role is primarily based in our offices in central Cambridge, but we do support some hybrid working.
