We are recruiting a Sample Team Project Manager who can manage any NIHR BioResource projects involving the Samples team. You will need excellent organisational and communication skills as well as Biology based laboratory experience, preferably within a clinical or research environment, to succeed in this role.

About the job:

The role holder will coordinate and project manage the multiple cohorts of research samples that need to be moved into or out of or processed at the service labs contracted or directly managed by the BioResource. The role holder will be located at the NIHR BioResource Headquarters in Cambridge, but some travel to UK Biocenter (UKBC) Milton Keynes, and other BioResource local centres will be required.

The role is predominately working with the Sample Management team and lab teams but also liaising with the NIHR BioResource Bioinformatics, Recruitment and Informatics teams and will involve significant interaction with staff at collaborative laboratories and service providers. The main aim is to oversee the sequencing projects pertaining to various sample cohorts from BioResource themes (Rare Diseases, Mental Health and Healthy Controls) which involves the management of production phase of the projects within the processing labs.

In addition, the role holder will fulfil study requests involving sample processing of banked samples to match the requirements of researchers of approved stage 2 studies, and commission, pilot and manage projects to deliver specific biological assays utilising the samples such as genotyping, sequencing or metabolomics.

About you:

  • Previous project management experience.
  • Experience of working in or managing a laboratory.
  • Experience of implementing large scale molecular biology projects and/or biobanking.
  • Experience of data management and report generation.
  • Experience of writing research protocols and SOPs.
  • Excellent communication skills across a variety of disciplines.

Temporary cover: This post is fixed-term for 12 months or the return of the post holder, whichever is the earlier.
