About the role:

The successful candidate will be a part of a nine-person strong teaching fellow team and undertake teaching at a higher education level 4 – 7 covering aspects of analogue and digital circuits, control, signal processing, optimisation and/or computer and systems architecture. They will be responsible for the design and delivery of teaching material that supports an electrical and electronic engineering degree and managing the assessment of learning in line with the learning outcomes of the modules.   

The post holder will also be the undergraduate Senior Tutor and will be expected to support undergraduate students in their personal, general academic, and professional development. The post holder will be the driving force behind the promotion of effective teaching and learning methodologies that support diversity in learning. They will also manage the College’s procedure for mitigating circumstances with the aim of augmenting the Department’s teaching, learning, and student support practices. 

What you would be doing:

Undertake teaching (lectures, academic tutorials, problem classes and laboratory work). Provide innovative, constructive, and timely feedback on different types of assessments related to this teaching. 

Develop teaching materials, including design, organisation, and the running of laboratory classes.

Contribute to the planning, design, and development of the curricula in view of supporting diversity in learning and keeping track of progress in AI. Identify areas where current provision needs revision or improvement and support reviews and implementation of innovation in those teaching areas.   

Supervise  students, provide advice on study skills and learning problems. Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate student projects and industrial placements.  

Act as a personal tutor being responsible for overseeing the academic progress of your allocated tutees, as well as being the first point of contact for pastoral care of your tutees.

What we are looking for

  • Degree (or equivalent) and appropriate postgraduate qualification in electrical and electronic engineering (EEE) or computer science/bioengineering/design engineering with EEE-equivalent hardware and software knowhow.
  • An appropriate Master’s level teaching qualification (or equivalent) in Higher Education.
  • A background providing appropriate contextual knowledge of electrical and electronic engineering topics ideally in a research-intensive context.
  • Experience in a broad range of teaching practices (not necessarily in an HE context), along with associated administrative and management support work.
  • Experience of using a Virtual Learning Environment (Blackboard, Moodle etc.) and a willingness to use technology enhanced learning.
  • Sufficient breadth and depth of specialist knowledge in electrical and electronic engineering topics in topics such as analogue and digital circuits, control, signal processing, optimisation, computer and systems architecture or equivalent areas.
  • Demonstrable familiarity with a variety of student-centred strategies to promote and assess teaching and to provide constructive feedback.
  • Ability to work flexibly and as part of a team to manage and successfully deliver project outcomes.
  • Demonstrable ability to take initiative, prioritise efficiently and work autonomously.
  • Evidence of excellent communication and interpersonal relationship skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to demonstrate good time management and organisational skills.
  • Willingness to undertake any training necessary for this role.
