De Montfort University (DMU) is an ambitious, globally minded institution with a clear focus on delivering high-quality teaching and research. A culturally rich university with a strong commitment to the public good, it strives to maintain a stimulating, innovative and inclusive environment where staff and students are able to thrive.

Faculty / Directorate

The Air Traffic Management and Communication over ATN/IPS (ATMACA) project aims to provide technologies for effective, seamless, interoperable air-to-ground datalink communication and digital flight monitoring and management. ATMACA proposes an IP-based datalink communication protocol and a user-friendly human-machine interface (HMI) to enable interactions with aeronautical applications and services. The ATMACA solution will be validated through real-time simulations and real-time monitoring tests. The consortium consists of a balanced mix of universities and industrial partners. The project has been funded within the framework of the EU’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme via the exploratory research call (HORIZON-SESAR-2023-DES-ER-02).

Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated researcher to join DMU’s team. Responsibilities include designing, implementing, and testing an innovative IP-based datalink protocol for air-to-ground communication, preparation of project deliverables, and active participation in project meetings. The role requires excellent knowledge of IP-based protocols and familiarity with network simulators. The role also involves extensive collaboration with consortium partners, as well as presenting and disseminating project results through various academic and industry forums. Enquiries may be directed to Professor Raouf Hamzaoui rhamzaoui@dmu.ac.uk.

Ideal Candidate

You will hold a PhD in electronic engineering, computer science, or a closely related discipline. You must possess strong expertise in IP-based communications, alongside excellent analytical, problem-solving, and technical writing skills. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team and strong communication and presentation skills are also required.
