Salary on appointment will be £17,247 per annum. The salary will be reviewed after successfully completing year 1, in line with the UEA annual incremental changes.  
 
This is an excellent opportunity if you would like to start or develop a career in Grounds Maintenance. As an apprentice, you will earn a competitive apprentice salary whilst gaining a Level 2 Horticultural Operative qualification, with the possibility of a permanent position at the end of your apprenticeship.

This role will enable you to gain and enhance relevant skills, knowledge, behaviours, and experience within Grounds Maintenance environment, by working alongside qualified and/or experienced colleagues.  

The role will be undertaken within the framework of an agreed standard apprenticeship (Level 2 Horticultural Operative). You will be closely supported and supervised in the delivery of tasks and activities. You will undertake routine maintenance tasks, including mowing, trimming, and litter picking. 

We are seeking a self-motivated person to join our busy and well-established team.

You will contribute to creating a safe, aesthetically pleasing environment for students, staff and visitors to the University. 

You will have an ability to work outdoors, effective interpersonal and communication skills and an interest in grounds maintenance work are essential.  

Once your apprenticeship is completed, there is the possibility of joining our team in an indefinite Grounds Maintenance Operative position. The salary for a Grounds Maintenance Operative is currently £21,565 per annum.

This position is full-time and available from 9 September 2024 on a fixed term basis for 24 months. It involves working Monday to Friday on a seasonal roster, averaging 36.25 hours per week over the year. Winter hours are 07:30 to 15:15, and Summer hours are 07:30 to 16:00, resulting in one accrued lieu day per month.

The winter roster includes an on-call snow clearing duty. Apprentices over the age of 18 with a valid UK driving licence will be invited to join the snow clearing roster, which comes with an additional 4% annual allowance.

Appointment will be subject to a criminal record check at Basic level from the Disclosure and Barring Service.
