CLOSER, the home of longitudinal research, is the interdisciplinary partnership of leading social and biomedical longitudinal population studies, the UK Data Service and The British Library. Our mission is to increase the visibility, use and impact of longitudinal population studies (LPS), data and research to ensure that longitudinal evidence is used to address the health, social, economic and environmental challenges facing the UK, now and in the future. In the period 2024 to 2028, CLOSER will continue to deliver its core services of data discoverability, knowledge exchange, education and training, and policy engagement.
CLOSER is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) through to September 2028 and is housed in the Social Research Institute (SRI) at the IOE, UCL’s Faculty of Education and Society. www.closer.ac.uk
About the role
The primary responsibility of the post holder is to lead CLOSER’s Education and Training (ET) function. CLOSER’s ET function aims to equip emerging and established researchers and data services professionals with the knowledge and skills to produce, manage, analyse, and mobilise LPS data to achieve social change. During the period October 2024 to September 2028, CLOSER will develop a series of online and in person short courses and workshops, engage nationally important education and training stakeholders in co-creating and promoting these resources, and collaborate with these stakeholders to build the LPS education and training infrastructure across the UK. The Head of ET will work with an educational technologist and a Research Fellow on these activities, and will be responsible for some line management of staff.
As Head of ET, the post holder will be a member of CLOSER’s Leadership Group, comprising the Director, the Head of Projects, the Technical Lead, the Head of Policy and Dialogue, and the Head of ET. The Leadership Group work together to provide a decision-making function on the work of CLOSER and manage day-to-day activity.
This post is available from 1 October 2024 and is funded to 30 September 2028 in the first instance. Interviews will be held on 6th September 2024.
About you
You will hold a PhD in Social Science (ideally in education, psychology, sociology, social sciences statistics or survey methodology) and have a track record of analysing and publishing with complex quantitative data (eg longitudinal population studies data, panel data, randomised controlled trial data, multileval data.
