Are you passionate about crop improvement and skilled in molecular biology?
Prof Donal O’Sullivan’s Crop Genetic Improvement group in the School of Agriculture, Policy and Development has an opening for a fixed-term role in faba bean molecular breeding to:

  • Join a dynamic team using cutting edge breeding techniques to select novel faba bean varieties combining high yield with high protein content and quality.
  • Exploit the group’s extensive knowledge of inheritance of protein variation to select genotypes with novel combinations of DNA markers for protein content and quality.
  • Implement efficient high-throughput assays for DNA extraction, genotyping, extraction and quantification of proteins in faba bean seeds.
  • Gain broad experience of the plant breeding process with opportunities for hands-on field work

You will have:

  • A science degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Knowledge of plant biology and/or biochemistry.
  • A blend of laboratory and plant biology skills.
  • Good communication skills and a team-oriented mentality.
