Summary

We are seeking two or more temporary Research Assistants to join the ProACTIVE research team, which is examining the impact and effectiveness of Alcohol Care Teams in England. This is an exciting opportunity for self-motivated researchers to join a highly experienced team funded by the National Institute for Health Research (https://fundingawards.nihr.ac.uk/award/NIHR152084).

These positions will be based at either:

  • Doncaster Royal Infirmary, Thorne Road, Doncaster, DN2 5LT where the successful candidate/s will work with Emma Stoner (Principal Investigator, Doncaster) to recruit hospital inpatients and deliver the ProACTIVE research study.
  • The University of Hull, Cottingham Road, Hull, HU6 7RX, where the successful candidate/s will conduct remote follow up interviews with research participants via the telephone or MS Teams.

Successful candidates may also be asked to cover different sites in the region.

The post holders will be employed by the University of Hull and will be accountable to Professor Thomas Phillips (Chief Investigator) and report to Dr Philippa Case, the ProACTIVE Research Fellow and Trial Manager. Those based at Doncaster Royal Infirmary will also have an honorary contract with Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Successful candidates will be based at either Doncaster Royal Infirmary or the University of Hull for the majority of their time. As such we would welcome applications from candidates who live locally to these areas, or within a practicable travelling distance. There may be some occasional travel required as part of the role to the University of Hull for the purposes of induction, training and team meetings.

Further roles are likely to become available in Scarborough, York and Hull, so please get in touch if these areas may be convenient.

The successful candidates will recruit or follow up patients with lived experience of alcohol dependence to a quasi-experimental study. They will be based at either:

  • Doncaster Royal Infirmary, where they will work closely with the Principal Investigators, clinical research nurses and ward staff to identify and recruit participants, take informed consent, conduct research questionnaires and enter data.
  • University of Hull, where they will contact participants via telephone or MS Teams

The ideal candidates will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, in addition to experience of administering psychometric tests, and engaging with vulnerable people in clinical or research settings.

These posts are for a period of up to 6-months with variable hours across the 7-day week available. The role is flexible, and hours will be dependent upon progress with participant recruitment. We require 10 patients to be recruited to this study per week.
