The University of Hull is securing its position as a leader in low carbon innovation and offshore wind through the collaborative development of Aura: a multidisciplinary, multi-stakeholder initiative bringing together UK expertise in engineering, and physical, environmental and social sciences to establish a global centre of industrial and academic excellence in renewable energy. Aura has dedicated facilities in the Humber – The Aura Innovation Centre (AIC) - at the geographical heart of an active, diverse and growing low carbon supply chain and located at the Humber Bridgehead Business Park.
The available position is unique as it will be working alongside AIC colleagues with a mixed client base of both SME and larger organisations as well as academics. There will be a variety of Advanced Manufacturing themed commercial, research and innovation projects from which to gain first-hand experience of engineering in action. The ideal candidate is, but not limited to, an engineering, robotics, mechatronics student who has undertaken modules in CAD and interested in design and additive manufacturing. The successful intern will be mentored by the InventX manager to initially build aptitude in advanced manufacturing, and then to proactively apply positive critique, evaluating and implementing opportunities to improve processes and products.
The Aura team operates from the Aura Innovation Centre at Bridgehead Business Park in Hessle. The Centre has been structured for collaboration, sharing the facility are a number of local businesses and academic specialists from the University. The Aura Innovation Centre is the University’s ‘front door’ for business and industry.
The postholder’s main purpose is to work symbiotically with the core AIC team, the AIC facility, a mixed client base of both SME and larger organisations, and academics, to provide innovation support through the application of engineering tools and techniques.
The post holder will work within the Aura Innovation Centre (AIC), contributing to core academic and commercial collaboration principally in the areas of computer aided design (CAD), and is expected to have a core CAD proficiency and an ability to expand upon these skills whilst in post.
