  • Applications are invited for the post of Academic Lead for Student Welfare (Senior Clinical Lecturer in Medical Education). The post is open to suitably qualified specialists at consultant/senior lecturer level who have a specific interest in medical education and an established track record in supporting student wellbeing and maintaining professional standards.
  • The post is offered in association with University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust where the successful applicant will hold an honorary consultant contract, with main clinical work conducted at the Royal Sussex County Hospital site with potential for cross-site working.
  • The successful applicant will be an accredited physician in respiratory medicine and will have significant evidence of expertise in medical education.
  • They will have experience within the following range of activities:
    • Leading student support systems
    • Supporting disabled learners by leading multidisciplinary groups using the GMC Welcome and Valued Framework
    • Supporting student professionalism (including fitness to practice procedures)
    • Student Wellbeing assessment and development 
  • The post holder will work at the interface of NHS placement providers, university support teams and BSMS academic teams to provide high quality support to learners, to best allow all students to flourish 
  • The successful candidate will also establish collaborative relationships with well established research groups, locally, nationally and internationally, to establish wellbeing research/scholarship. 
  • From an academic perspective, this post will be based in the Department of Medical Education at BSMS. 
  • Brighton & Sussex Medical School is a joint venture between the Universities of Brighton and Sussex and received its first medical students in 2003.  Since then it has proved to be exceptionally popular and in recent admissions rounds has continued to achieve one of the highest application rates of any UK medical school
