Lecturer in History (Fixed-Term)

Bishop Grosseteste University - Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences

Location: Lincoln
Salary: £37,099 to £41,732 pro-rata
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On: 16th July 2024
Closes: 5th August 2024
Job Ref: FIX-937-2024-B

We are currently seeking to recruit a Lecturer on a full-time, fixed-term, teaching-only contract to join our academic Faculty as part of the History team from the end of August (or as soon as possible thereafter) to replace a member of staff on maternity leave; the planning and delivery of multiple history modules in semester one and semester two is essential to the role.

We envisage the role will continue until the end of May 2024 at a minimum, (thus enabling delivery of teaching and marking across both semesters) but will be contractually determined by the return date of the existing lecturer.

We are looking for a candidate with the ability to lead a core level 4 module on the Early Modern British Isles: From Reformation to Revolution. The candidate will also need to have an interest in and track record of delivering undergraduate modules beyond this specialism in order to lead delivery on the following modules:

  • The City in Global History: The Rise of Urban Societies in the Modern Age
  • Libraries, Museums and Archives: A History of Collections, 1600-2000
  • Crime, Justice and Punishment: 1750-1950
  • History of Identity: Sexuality, Class, Race and Gender
  • Democratic Dictators

[further specifications and outlines of these modules can be provided upon request]

The role will involve module leadership roles (lecturing and seminar leadership) and associated marking, administrative and tutorial duties. This post will be focused on our undergraduate degree (levels 4-6) programme.

The successful candidate will have completed their PhD by the time of accepting the post. The successful candidate will ideally have gained some experience lecturing and in course design and leadership.

You will teach students using a variety of methods, to suit each subject and group. Our History team believe in combining the best aspects of traditional university teaching with innovative techniques of delivery and assessment to promote student participation and interactivity. As such, we are looking to appoint enthusiastic and creative academics to this post who are flexible in their approach and comfortable teaching beyond their subject specialism.
