This is a full-time, fixed-term position for up to two years and is only available on a Teaching & Scholarship contract.

Bishop Grosseteste University (BGU) is located on a beautifully green and pleasant campus just a few minutes’ walk from Lincoln Cathedral, Castle, and the old Roman city. Our story began in the 1860s as an Anglican teacher training college for women, which makes us one of the oldest Higher Education Institutions in the UK. Since then, we've grown, adapted, and modernised to become the thriving university we are today. We're still experts in teaching and education, but we've now got a wider portfolio of exciting degree courses than ever before. We currently offer courses in a wide range of subjects, from Undergraduate Degree level to PhD, and much more in between.

We are currently seeking to recruit a Lecturer on a fixed-term, teaching-only contract to join our academic Faculty as part of the Archaeology team from the beginning of September. This post will involve the planning and delivery of several Archaeology modules in semester one and semester two.

We are looking for a candidate with a proven expertise in prehistory or Romano-British archaeology. The ability to lead core modules on ‘Prehistoric Britain’ and ‘Roman Britain’ is essential. In addition, the candidate will have experience supervising undergraduate dissertations. The candidate will also need to have an interest in and track record of delivering undergraduate modules beyond this specific specialism in order to lead delivery of the following modules (for example):

    Field Archaeology

Material Culture in Archaeology: Theory and Practice

    Landscape History

You will teach students using a variety of methods, to suit each subject and group. Our Archaeology team believe in combining the best aspects of traditional university teaching with innovative techniques of delivery and assessment to promote student participation and interactivity. As such, we are looking to appoint enthusiastic and creative academics to this post who are flexible in their approach and comfortable teaching beyond their subject specialism.

The role will involve assuming module leadership roles and associated marking, administrative and tutorial duties. This post will be focused on our undergraduate degree (levels 4-6) programme.

The Lecturer post also includes assuming proportionate responsibility for student recruitment and outreach, in support of the Programme Leader and Archaeology team.

BGU offers a generous employee benefits package including:

35 days holiday for Grades 7+

Plus 3 additional discretionary days annual leave over the Christmas period

Various pension scheme options including a Teachers Pension scheme offering up to 23.68% Employer Contribution, and BG Flex (a private pension scheme managed by Aviva) offering a 10% employer contribution and the employee contributions are voluntary and flexible.

    Cycle to Work Scheme

    Electric Car Salary Sacrifice Scheme

24/7 Employee Assistance Programme including free online GP services and face to face counselling sessions

Agile Working Scheme to support employees work-life balance

Please note, we do not reimburse interview expenses.
