Fixed Term: 2 years, available from 1 September 2024 

Applications are invited for a Research Associate position available within the Centre for Cold Matter, a part of the Quantum Optics and Laser Science Group (QOLS Group), to help produce independent and original research on the cooling of molecules to quantum degeneracy. 

You will be expected to plan and carry out research, to write up results for publication and oral presentations, to liaise with collaborators within and outside Imperial College, and to assist in the maintenance of lab facilities and the administration of the research team and to support research students. This project will involve a high degree of teamwork and interdisciplinary research. 

The following are essential requirements for the role:

  • Hold a PhD (or equivalent) in Experimental Physics or a closely related discipline.
  • A strong background in Experimental Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics.
  • Technical knowledge of laser systems and the control of laser light

The following are desirable requirements for the role: 

  • Experience in laser cooling and trapping, preferably including quantum gases
  • Experience in simulation and data analysis
  • Experience of using data acquisition hardware and software

*Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range £41,694 – £44,888 per annum.
