Job Summary

The post focuses on conducting research in Health in Humanitarian Settings and/or Women’s Leadership in Global Health as part of a Lancet Commission on Global Governance.

The role entails leading research programs in Health in Humanitarian Settings and/or Global Governance for Health from a gender perspective, managing projects, and supervising multidisciplinary teams. The Research Associate is also responsible for submitting research findings to peer-reviewed journals and securing external research funding.

The Research Associate will join our team of statisticians, epidemiologists, clinical research fellows, data scientists, health systems scientists, PhD students and support staff, and will be expected to contribute to various large-scale projects.

Duties and responsibilities

  • You will be expected to lead and design research studies with the field of pandemic preparedness using data from several hundred thousand (or even millions) of individuals (clinical trials, disease registries, cohort studies, primary care records, biobanks and systematic reviews and meta-analyses).       
  • You will assist in managing projects, and supervising multidisciplinary teams designing, conducting, collecting and interpreting data and systematic reviews with an overall goal of developing evidence-based recommendations that will improve the health of millions of women and men.

Essential requirements

  • Hold a PhD in Health Systems, political sciences, social sciences, or a related subject with a qualitative emphasis or a closely related discipline, or equivalent research, industrial or commercial experience.
  • Knowledge of research methods and qualitative research
  • Practical experience in humanitarian settings
  • Critical understanding of Gender theories

This post is full- time, fixed-term for 3 years and is available immediately.

You will be based in The George Institute Scale Space Building Imperial College City Campus.

*Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as a Research Assistant within the salary range £41,694 - £44,888 per annum.

Due to funding constraints for this role, we can offer salary range only at £46,593 - £48,376 per annum. However, you will be eligible for incremental raises as per our standard pay scale for this grade.

Hybrid working may be considered for this role.  Staff working in roles that are suitable for hybrid working will normally be expected to work 60% of their time onsite. The opportunity for hybrid working will be discussed at interview.
