A full-time postdoctoral position in evolutionary microbiology is available in the lab of Dr James Hall (University of Liverpool) as part of a BBSRC project in collaboration with the MultiDefence Consortium (https://sites.exeter.ac.uk/multidefence/) with teams at the University of Exeter, University of Manchester, University of Cambridge, University of Bath, University of Bristol, University of St Andrews, and University of Durham.

You will use experimental and sequencing analyses to explore interactions between genome defence systems and mobile genetic elements. This will involve developing new experimental approaches, running assays, and analysing the resulting data in collaboration with the Principal Investigator and the wider Consortium team.

You should have a PhD in microbiology, microbial ecology, or experimental evolution. Expertise in laboratory microbiology is essential. Experience in bioinformatics and/or theoretical biology is desirable.

You should have a doctoral-level qualification (achieved or expected within three months). Any applicants who are still awaiting their PhD to be awarded should be aware that if successful, they will be appointed at grade 6, spine point 30. Upon submitting written confirmation that they have been successful in being awarded their PhD, they will be moved onto grade 7, spine point 31 from the date of their award.

The post is available for up to 36 months in the first instance. Starting as near as possible to 1st October 2024
