The Big Data Technologies and Innovation Laboratory at the University of Hertfordshire is working with industry and academic partners on an Innovate UK funded project, Arvast, which aims to use digital means to improve modern methods of construction (MMC). The Back-end developer will support the research carried out by Big Data Technologies and Innovation Laboratory (BDTI) on multiple funded projects including ARVAST. minimising the need for repeated training and supporting the elimination of error using augmented-reality (AR) in conjunction with deep-learning algorithms, video analytics, big data analytics, natural language processing (NLP) and cloud computing.
Main duties and responsibilities
You will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing robust and secure back-end systems using Python and related frameworks (e.g., Django, Flask, FastAPI). To build and maintain RESTful APIs and integrate with third-party services and databases. You will be required to implement server-side logic, business rules, and data processing workflows using Python, whilst collaborating with front-end developers, data engineers and other team members to ensure seamless integration. You will be required to troubleshoot and debug back-end system related issues, maintain clear records and present results and presentations to a variety of audiences and stakeholders at seminars and conferences.
Skills & experience
You will have substantial professional experience in back-end development using Python and related frameworks (e.g., Django, Flask, FastAPI) and proven experience with Python web frameworks such as Django, Flask, or FastAPI for building RESTful APIs and microservices. Experience integrating back-end applications with databases including SQL and NoSQL using Python ORM/ODM libraries is essential to this role. You must be able to demonstrate a strong understanding of Python testing frameworks and writing comprehensive test suits. You will be proficient in your use of version control systems for code management and be familiar with containerization tools and container orchestration platforms. You will have expertise in writing clean, maintainable and testable Python codes following industry nest practice, be able to prioritise tasks and liaise with project partners.
Qualifications required
Educated with a minimum of a Degree (or equivalent) or professional qualification in a construction, computing or a related course
