Main duties and responsibilities
To become expert in the current evolution towards F5G Advanced through the ongoing development of standards seeking to identify potential technology and deployment issues. To review and consider research focused towards F6G as it concerns the access network and to identify potential issues and challenges in the migration to F6G.
To consider the major aspects of improvement and additional features providing better performance with coverage of a larger and more diverse set of network applications provided by F5G, together with the extrapolation towards F6G in the access. To determine the main features and characteristics required for F6G and to further identify a technological green agile network and the barriers to the design and implementation of F6G in the access network.
To carry out other specific duties as may be reasonably requested by the Academic leads and that are commensurate and with the nature and grade of the post. The collaboration with co-workers within the Communications and Intelligence Systems Research Group, other Higher Education institutions and other appropriate organisations is expected.
The postholder will also seek external funding and disseminate the outcomes of the research conducted in high quality journals and at conferences, together with other appropriate media. There will also be a requirement to undertake some limited undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching. It is expected that the postholder will identify opportunities for new lines of research enquiry, while also engaging with external partners and stakeholders.
Experience required
Research concerned with the integration of 5G wireless technology, together with optical fronthaul or backhaul networking for the access network is important. In addition, a proven track record of successful publication of significant research ideas/results in peer reviewed journals is required. Although the postholder could have deeper and more comprehensive research experience in optical or wireless networks, they should have an understanding of the combination and operation of the two technologies within the access network.
Qualifications required
You will require a minimum of a good undergraduate honours degree (or equivalent) and above in a relevant discipline and a PhD (or equivalent qualification) or be close to completion of a PhD (no more than 3 months prior to viva) in an appropriate and relevant subject area or have equivalent research experience.
Please view the job description and person specification for a full list of the duties and essential criteria. Please attach a personal statement showing clearly how your skills and experience match the Person Specification.
Appointment to this role may require an Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) certificate.
