The Big Data Technologies and Innovation Laboratory at the University of Hertfordshire is working with industry and academic partners on an Innovate UK funded project, Arvast, which aims to use digital means to improve modern methods of construction (MMC). The Frontend Engineer will support the research carried out by Big Data Technologies and Innovation Laboratory on multiple funded project including ARVAST. ARVAST will minimise the need for repeated training and support the elimination of error using augmented-reality (AR) in conjunction with deep-learning algorithms, video analytics, big data analytics, natural language processing (NLP) and cloud computing.
Main duties and responsibilities:
You will be responsible for the design and development of high-quality, responsive user interfaces using modern frontend technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and relevant frameworks/libraries (e.g., React, Angular, Vue). You will work closely with Backend engineers, designers and product manages to translate designs into functional frontend codes. You will be responsible for optimizing web application performance to ensure smooth user experience, troubleshooting, and debugging to resolve issues and functionality and have involvement in code reviews to ensure high quality code. You will be required to collaborate with team members in order to implement effective testing strategies this will involve the ability to contribute to the management of the project and prioritise tasks effectively.
Skills & experience
You will have substantial proven experience in frontend development using modern technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and relevant frameworks/libraries (e.g., React, Angular, Vue). You will have a good knowledge of frontend build tools and processes (e.g., Webpack, Babel, NPM/Yarn) and experience in Cloud platforms, testing frameworks and GraphQL and API Design. You must be able to write clean modular and maintainable code, demonstrate the ability to work both independently and as part of a team as well as the ability to adapt to new technologies and coding standards. Excellent time management skills and a proven ability to deliver high-quality frontend solutions on time and within budget is crucial for this role. In Addition, A solid understanding of web standards, cross-browser compatibility is desirable.
Qualifications required.
Educated with a minimum of an undergraduate honours degree or professional qualification in a construction, computing or a related course
