The University of Reading’s International Study & Language Institute is looking for a full-time English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Lecturer to teach English and Academic Skill on its Foundation Year (FHEQ Level 3) programmes.

You will be joining a team of Lecturers in range of subjects including Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Business, Economics, English & Academic Skills. Foundation Year are a busy and experienced team, and you will be expected to work effectively alongside others in a collaborative environment while adhering to all relevant University policies and procedures.

As the Foundation Year is a preparatory programme of study for undergraduate education, we are looking for someone who can create and deliver interesting and engaging lessons and materials which encourages the participation of a diverse cohort of students, can co-ordinate/convene modules and can design formative and summative assessment.

You will:

  1. Be able to work in the UK and have availability to work full-time on campus when required.
  2. Have an undergraduate degree and master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field and a teaching qualification e.g., DELTA, PGCHEP, PGCE.
  3. Have experience of teaching EAP and Academic Skills.
  4. Have excellent written and spoken English 
  5. Have experience of delivering high quality teaching and academic support to a diverse cohort of Foundation Year students in UK higher education.
  6. Demonstrate sensitivity to the needs and challenges of young adult learners e.g., from a range of diverse nationalities, cultures, educational backgrounds and academic abilities.
  7. Have experience of leading, convening and/or co-ordinating teaching and modules.
  8. Have excellent organisational skills and an ability to work with others as well as autonomously to prioritise and meet deadlines.
  9. Have experience of working with MS Office Suites and Virtual Learning Environments e.g., Blackboard, Moodle.  
  10. Be reliable, flexible, and responsible.
  11. Be willing to actively participate in Foundation Year promotional and student recruitment activities including Open Days and applicant engagement events. 
  12. Be willing to participate, organise and engage with co-curricular and extra-curricular activities e.g., student away days.
  13. Engage with continued professional development activities.
