We are seeking to appoint a Senior Administrator to lead the Administration Team in the National Centre for Atmospheric Science at the University of Reading (NCAS@Reading). As the Senior Administrator, you will coordinate the delivery of professional administrative services and oversee financial reporting, recruitment processes, and executive administration within NCAS@Reading. 

NCAS@Reading consists of over 65 staff undertaking world-leading climate science and developing start-of-the-art Earth System models. Our scientists and software engineers are funded by over £4 million of annual research income from a broad variety of funding bodies. NCAS@Reading forms a major part of the UK’s National Centre for Atmospheric Science, which carries out world leading research in Weather, Climate and Air Pollution and supports UK research scientists through the provision of services and facilities including the FAAM Airborne Laboratory and data and computational services. NCAS is an open, friendly and welcoming organisation, committed to supporting and developing its staff. 

Enthusiastic, flexible and conscientious, you take a proactive approach to your work and will have the ability to use initiative and judgement to resolve problems independently. You will have excellent organisational skills and will be able to work accurately, to tight deadlines. This role will require skills and knowledge in financial administration and reporting, preferably with a good understanding of University systems and processes. You will have experience in the provision of administrative services, and be responsible for the management of two Executive Administration Officers in the NCAS@Reading Administration Team. As the Senior Administrator, you will work closely with the administration team that supports the School of Mathematical, Physical and Computational Sciences and with the national NCAS Operations Team.

You will have:

  • Experience of providing executive support, and preferably an ability to set up and maintain effective administrative systems
  • Demonstrable knowledge of financial accounts and budgeting processes
  • Experience of line management in a team context and the ability to motivate and lead a team would be desirable
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to balance competing priorities and meet set deadlines
  • A strong focus on attention to detail and high quality output
  • Experience of resolving issues and queries independently
  • Ability to ensure effective liaison and communication at all levels, verbally and in writing
