Location: College Lane Campus, Hatfield
Pending GMC approval, the University of Hertfordshire is planning to open a new Medical School with the first cohort of students starting in September 2026.
We have a very enthusiastic core team already working on the project, with St George’s Medical School, University of London, acting as our sponsor. We are now seeking to expand our team to develop and fully implement the MBBS programme. Newly appointed staff will receive full support from our existing team.
Main duties and responsibilities
You will lead on clinical science aspects of the curriculum for Years 1 and 2, coordinating the delivery of St George’s curriculum in alignment with GMC requirements and ensuring the integration of basic and clinical sciences to provide a comprehensive learning experience. You will regularly review and update the curriculum to maintain relevance and academic rigour.
You will implement and monitor quality assurance processes for teaching and assessments in Years 1 and 2, leading on the development and delivery of assessments and the collection of feedback. You will provide leadership and support to faculty members teaching in Years 1 & 2 and academic support and mentorship programmes to students.
You will lead the clinical science element of the MBBS programme for internal validation processes and GMC accreditation, and collaborate and communicate effectively with other academic leads and stakeholders including students, faculty, and administrative staff.
Skills and experience required
The successful candidate will be able to evidence experience in teaching and curriculum development at undergraduate level in clinical/medical education and experience in academic leadership and quality assurance.
You must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and strong organizational and administrative skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously. You must demonstrate commitment to innovation in teaching and learning, with a willingness to embrace new methods and technologies, and the ability to lead and inspire faculty and students, fostering a positive and productive academic environment. You will be able to identify issues, develop solutions, and implement changes effectively.
Qualifications required
A postgraduate qualification in a relevant basic science discipline or an MBBS with relevant clinical experience
