About this role
The Institute of Education and Social Sciences has a growing Sociology provision that takes a student-centred, supportive approach to teaching and learning. The department is currently seeking Associate Lecturers to teach undergraduate modules within the field of Sociology.
The modules you will teach will focus on gender, ethnicity, disability, poverty and social justice just to name a few. The notion of Social Identity and understanding its impact on lived experiences through gender, sex, race and ethnicity is key to our teaching. Content includes sex and sexuality, risk anxiety in the media, interpretation of current affairs through a sociological lens and understanding aspect of identity.
About you
The successful postholder(s) will have a good relevant undergraduate experience and ideally be working towards a postgraduate degree in Sociology. You will have a sound understanding of the latest developments and theories around identity, including sex identity & gender and the ability to teach across a number of sociological areas, with particular specialisms considered. The role will include developing content to shape the delivery of the Sociology programmes.
The ability to lead discussion around contentious topics and the ability to moderate and lead classroom debate is a must. Along with the ability to foster group cohesion and work with small dynamic classes.
Successful candidates will have experience of delivering high quality, interactive teaching or training activities along with strong interpersonal skill and the ability to build strong relationships.
Your teaching will be informed by a combination of practical experience and/or research to support high quality learning and teaching, experience of using Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs), and the use of technologies to enhance the learning, assessment of and feedback to our students.
