To support our strategic plans for future developments, we are seeking to appoint an exceptional candidate to enhance the excellence in teaching and scholarship in Art & Design General Foundation within DJCAD. The successful candidate would be expected to take an active role in the teaching of our successful Art & Design General Foundation course.

You will contribute to the development of the teaching, scholarship and research agendas, philosophy and strategies of the institution. Possessing considerable knowledge of the subject domain, you should be a team player, as well as demonstrating commitment and drive. You will enable students to develop and enhance their capacity to nurture their creative development and understanding in Art & Design General Foundation as a core creative practice, and to engage at an international level with peers in the creative industries and Higher Education. You will be expected to support colleagues in the strategic development of the core discipline.

Your priorities will include:

  • Play an active role in the organisation, preparation and delivery of modules within Art & Design General Foundation. You will contribute to course delivery and work as part of a staff team who deliver collectively across the Art & Design General Foundation modules.
  • Contribute to the strategic development of undergraduate teaching and initiatives in Art & Design General Foundation to ensure the course remains relevant and innovative.
  • Assist with pastoral care and career development of students and take on board the responsibilities associated with being an Academic Adviser of Studies.
  • Develop strategies for connectivity between studio practice and theory, and between practice and industry.
  • Engage with colleagues across the University and in the design industry, nationally and internationally to further the potential for collaboration, employment opportunities and graduate recruitment.

Who we’re looking for:

  • Extensive knowledge of theory and practice in Art & Design, with specific emphasis on Communication Design related practice.
  • A good understanding of student learning needs and the ability to plan challenging and innovative learning activities at undergraduate level.
  • The ability to motivate students and colleagues and to work as part of a team to meet University goals.
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills enabling the development of effective working relationships with students and colleagues.
