Salary: £37,099 to £44,263 pa : Grade 7
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 3rd July 2024

Job Ref: REQ001318

Abertay is a modern university with a global outlook, rooted in its local and national communities. We have made our mark with high quality, well-directed teaching and research, and a stimulating and enriching experience for our students.

The University is looking to appoint a lecturer who can contribute to the delivery of its two LLB (Hons) programmes which are accredited by the Law Society of Scotland and the Faculty of Advocates. We are particularly interested in interviewing candidates with an interest in teaching a range of core Scottish law modules such as Criminal law, Delict, Evidence and Property. Experience in legal practice in Scotland will be an advantage but is not a requirement, as is teaching the above-mentioned modules at tertiary level in Scotland. A Scottish law LLB (Hons) will be an advantage but is not a requirement if the candidate has suitable relevant teaching experience. An LLM or PhD will be an advantage but again is not an absolute requirement.

Abertay Law delivers two LLB (Hons) programmes: an undergraduate LLB (Hons) programme in Scots law and an undergraduate LLB (Hons) with Criminology programme which is focused on preparing graduates for a career in the criminal justice system. Our programmes have a strong emphasis on the development of transferable skills along with the academic discipline of law. We were rated first in Scotland and first in the UK for student satisfaction with teaching in the National Student Survey (NSS) 2023. We further contribute to the delivery of law modules in other departments and faculties across the University and are in the process of developing a master’s programme in Cyber Law and Policy in cooperation with colleagues from our world-leading Department of Cybersecurity. We supervise a number of research master’s and PhD candidates and there is an established research culture which led to a successful submission to the REF2021. This, therefore, is an excellent opportunity for the successful candidate to contribute to the further development of the department.

The post holder will also develop research objectives, projects and proposals and carry out individual or collaborative research projects aligned with the Abertay Research and Knowledge Exchange Strategy.

Reporting to the Head of Department you will provide teaching input to undergraduate and postgraduate programmes while taking a leading role in fostering and developing the research culture in the Department. Informal enquiries about the position may be directed to Professor McKay, at a.mckay@abertay,ac.uk.

If you believe you have the skills and experience for this exciting and challenging role, please submit your application through our online recruitment system, which can be found by clicking the 'Apply' button above.
