SOAS continues to make a positive impact throughout the world through excellent research and teaching and through its profound engagement with Asia, Africa and the Middle East.  The world needs universities that can serve as knowledge bases that speak to the immediate and future concerns of all of humanity and that engage with the major challenges of our time. SOAS's vision is to build a research-intensive university which is world-class but also responsive to the marginalised communities of our world. SOAS has a vibrant community, a global outlook, and a diverse student and staff body. In recent years, the School has achieved a complete financial turnaround, strengthened its academic leadership, invested significantly in people and facilities, and raised its global reputation. The School continues to grow and prosper.

SOAS is looking to recruit a Head of Learning and Teaching and Online Learning to support the Director of Global Learning and Teaching in leading the Learning & Teaching Enhancement department. They will be responsible for enhancing learning and teaching, the Student Learning Centre, and SOAS’s Learning Design and Technology Team. The postholder will provide strategic direction, catalyse innovation and support School-wide staff to deliver a unique and fulfilling learning and teaching experience, encompassing SOAS’s on-campus and online community. Working collaboratively with academic and professional services colleagues across the School, and in strong partnership with the student body, the postholder will be an advocate for a high-quality student experience and champion a focus that is clearly aligned to the distinctive academic mission of SOAS.

The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise and a strong track-record of delivery in teaching and learning in a UK context, including experience that will allow them to provide oversight of the SOAS Online Distance Learning (ODL) portfolio. They will set service standards within the Learning and Teaching Enhancement (LTE) Team, be experienced in managing projects within the department and lead the enhancement of pedagogical practice at SOAS through knowledge sharing, supporting colleagues in their teaching career development, and celebrating best practice. They will have led successful teams, whether that be in an academic or professional services capacity. They must understand the nuts and bolts of Learning and Teaching. They will be committed to SOAS’s highly distinctive vision as a research-intensive university with a strong international agenda and a clear regional lens through which to understand the world.
