We seek to appoint a Research Assistant to assist in the delivery of a British Academy Knowledge Frontiers Project - Doing Disability Futures.
FTE : 0.4
Term: Fixed Term (31/03/2026
Closing date : 22/07/2024
Doing Disability Futures is a British Academy funded project, led by Dr Donna McCormack, with partners at the University of Edinburgh, the University of Stavanger (Norway), Stockholm University (Sweden) and The Love Tank (London, UK). The project uses arts-based and speculative methods to engage with colonial histories of violence and ongoing racialised health injustices, as well as to create alternative futures that challenge and disrupt disability injustice.
As a Research Assistant, you will assist in the delivery of this project, working under the supervision of Dr Donna McCormack and liaising with other project investigators. You will conduct literature reviews, support data collection and analysis, and work with community and UK/international research partners. You will manage and prioritise workload and ensure that all activities are completed to deadlines, and assist with professional and knowledge exchange activities. You will contribute to the development and production of project outputs, e.g., podcasts, digital exhibition, blogs and publications. You will also support the digital development and management of the project, including the project website, social media, didgital exhibition and other digital activities.
To be considered for the role, you will be educated to a minimum of degree level in a relevant humanities or social science discipline, and you will have a breadth of knowledge in disability studies and disability justice, as well as knowledge of interdisciplinary research and arts-based methods. You will have relevant work experience in supporting a research project, and experience of working with external partners, including community organisations and/or artists. You will also have experience of maintaining a website, social media profile and other digital activities. You will have the ability to plan and organise your own workload effectively with general supervision from senior colleagues, and have excellent interpersonal and communications skills, with the ability to listen, engage and persuade, and to present complex information in an accessible way to a range of audiences.
While not essential for the role, applications are welcomed from candidates with: a higher degree (or equivalent professional experience) in an appropriate discipline; knowledge and expertise in one or more areas of project focus, such as critical race theory, decoloniality, LGBTQ+ studies, and/or queer theory; knowledge and experience in undertaking literature searches, use of bibiometric software, and synthesis of literature and resources; and knowledge and experience in developing and supporting accessible activities and resources.
Formal interviews for this post will be held on Wednesday, 14 August 2024.
Informal enquiries about the post can be directed to Dr Donna McCormack, Chancellor’s Felow /Senior Lecturer, donna.mccormack@strath.ac.uk
