The role

The Consultancy Services Manager leads on the University’s centralised consultancy support service that was established in 2021. The service works with clients that range from multinational to SMEs and Government departments across sectors that include pharmaceutical, telecoms, energy and construction. We promote the service to university staff and through attending and speaking at internal school and faculty events and relevant industry networks as well as in 1:1 discussion.

The team actively facilitate in all aspects of consultancy projects in an efficient and responsive manner by providing administrative, contracting and financial support to staff wishing to consult to external parties.

One of the key aspects of the role will be to develop and implement new systems and processes, grow the relatively new service to our growing portfolio of clients, and manage the systems and personnel to ensure a high degree of customer satisfaction.

What will you be doing?

  • Developing processes for providing consultancy support services, including workflows, contract and application templates and approvals processes;
  • Implementing the new processes within academic Faculties and Professional Services teams;
  • Leading the centralised consultancy support service, including monitoring and managing throughput, barriers and staff satisfaction;
  • Developing, maintaining and managing relationships with key stakeholders internally and externally regarding consultancy support;
  • Delivering substantial growth in consultancy projects and income, outlined in a business plan produced during the pilot, and develop strategies for future growth.

You should apply if

  • Experience of drafting, reviewing and negotiating contracts;
  • Good communication and negotiation skills;
  • Strong problem-solving skills and logical analytical skills;
  • Excellent organisational and project management skills;
  • Good understanding the key aspects of financial management, preferably in a higher education setting.
