About us
We are one of the world’s leading research centres for the study of prions and their wider relevance to neurodegenerative disease with a growing research activity in Alzheimer’s disease (www.prion.ucl.ac.uk). The Institute is highly multidisciplinary with close integration of structural and molecular biology, genetics, cellular and animal models, small molecule and immuno-therapeutics and clinical research. MRC and UCL have jointly invested £30 million in provision of a dedicated building in central London for the Institute supporting the vision to expand research in protein misfolding and aggregation in neurodegenerative disease.
About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic person to join our Biological Services Facility to provide technical “hands on” support for the research facility as required by the scientific staff of the Unit. This is a unique opportunity for an Animal Technician as the majority of licensed procedural work is carried out by the technical staff at our facility, including some complex techniques and full training is provided. Main duties will include: Performing regulated and non-regulated procedures, animal husbandry, breeding rodents, supporting experiments and research staff, conducting physical/physiological assessments of animals and participating with the in-house training scheme. This job is available on a fixed term contract until 31st March 2027, in the first instance.
About you
You should ideally possess an IAT Certificate or have an equivalent animal care qualification. Five GCSEs (C or above) including English, Math and Science. You will also have a sound background in animal technology, possession of a Home Office personal license and experience in performing regulated procedures is essential.
