Applications are invited for the post of SuperFab Technical Manager in the Department of Physics.
SuperFab is an advanced, world-class nanofabrication facility focussed on the production of superconducting quantum electronic devices for research and industry. It is located on the main Egham campus of Royal Holloway, University of London and is part of the School of Engineering, Mathematical and Physical Sciences.
We seek an enthusiastic technical manager / engineer, preferably with knowledge and experience of electronic nanofabrication, to manage and support the technical operation of the SuperFab facility. Knowledge and experience of any of electron beam lithography, optical lithography, thin film deposition, wet and dry etching, nanometrology, materials, device characterisation, high vacuum techniques and maintenance of electromechanical tools will be an advantage, but training can be given in any of these areas for the right candidate.
The purpose of the role is to manage and support technical and operational aspects of the SuperFab facility, ensuring the continuing successful operation of the SuperFab facility and its role in supporting the UK’s National Quantum Technology Programme. Facility users include internal and external academic staff and research students and users based in industry.
The post-holder will foster knowledge, trust and understanding between SuperFab users, professional staff and academic staff and will work collaboratively with colleagues to continuously improve the experience for all stakeholders. The role will include providing training for SuperFab users in tool operation, ensuring compliance with facility codes of practice and safety procedures, providing specialist technical support to users, and ensuring tool and facility maintenance. The post-holder will work closely with the SuperFab Cleanroom Manager and will also act as an interface between SuperFab management, the internal and external users of the facility and Royal Holloway’s Research and Innovation Business Development team. The postholder will provide technical support and advice to the Director of SuperFab to enable the Director to fulfil their academic leadership responsibilities and may be asked to deputise for the Director of SuperFab on operational matters.
