About the role

We are seeking an excellent Senior Research Fellow or Research Fellow in Health Economics who relishes the challenges of applying economic evaluations in new ways and seeks to push forward the field of health economics. The post involves review, development and testing of economic decision models, economic analysis alongside clinical trials and observational studies, and the development of applied and methodological research proposals. All research will be collaborative within multi-disciplinary teams. The post-holder will additionally support the development of early career researchers and lead areas of administrative responsibility and strategic development for HELM.

If you are an enthusiastic, collaborative health economist who enjoys the creative challenges of working across disciplines and is looking to develop the role and reach of health economics, this position will suit you well. Strong communication skills in both writing and presenting are essential to the role. The post holder will have advanced knowledge of research methods and techniques for economic evaluation.

In addition to working with the Professor of Health Economics, the post holder will collaborate with other academics active in statistical, clinical, and epidemiological research as well as health economists working on econometric and decision models, applied economic evaluations and systematic reviews.

There will be excellent support for career development, including time for technical, academic, and professional development courses, personal mentoring and attending conferences. The Centre for Research Staff Development also offers interactive workshops and supports networking.

This is a full-time post (35 Hours per week) for a fixed term contract until 30 April 2027.

About You

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria for Research Fellow

  • PhD qualified in a relevant subject area (or equivalent or pending results) e.g. heath economics, health services research, applied or behavioural economics, operational research
  • Evidence of completed excellent methodological and/or applied research in economic evaluation alongside trials or quasi-experimental studies
  • Working practical knowledge of using decision models for economic evaluation
  • Excellent quantitative data analysis and data visualisation techniques
  • Excellent written and oral presentation skills
  • Consistent contributions to organisational administration and teams
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and communicate complex scientific data to non-specialists

Essential criteria for Senior Research Fellow

  • PhD qualified in a relevant subject area (or equivalent or pending results) e.g. heath economics, health services research, applied or behavioural economics, operational research
  • Evidence of highly reputable applied and/or methodological research in economic evaluation (including clinical trials and/or quasi-experimental studies and decision models)
  • Evidence of published high impact, peer-reviewed papers for submission to the Research Excellence Framework
  • Excellent quantitative data analysis and data visualisation techniques
  • Excellent track record of successful research grants submitted and won as Co-I
  • Productive supervisory or leadership experience in an area of research related to Health Economics for Life Sciences and Medicine
  • Evidence of submitting research findings within agreed timeframes
  • Able to interpret and communicate complex scientific data clearly to non-specialists
  • Demonstrable ability to contribute consistently to organisational administration and development of individuals and teams
