Summary of the role
We are seeking a Communications Officer to support this exciting new research centre by maintaining and delivering communications internally and externally, utilising a range of channels.
We are seeking someone who is enthusiastic to build skills in science communication, and to learn and communicate about our five major research themes of: neurodegeneration; rehabilitation; diabetes; genetics; and clinical mycology. The Communications Officer will be a key member of staff in nurturing a cohesive community, showcasing what it can offer to the outside world and celebrating achievements and key milestones.
The Communications Officer will report to the Chief Operating Officer. They will work closely with other members of the team, particularly within the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences and the Biomedical Research Centre.
The post holder is required to create, maintain, develop and implement external and internal communications plans, suitable for a large and diverse organisation. These internal communications plans will seek to ensure all relevant audiences are kept up to date with news and priorities as appropriate. Ways of delivering such communications will vary; from staff meetings to newsletters and digital communications channels.
The post holder will support the development and implementation of any given internal communications plans/campaigns and will be required to manage and execute significant aspects of these plans/campaigns. This will include working with the press office to generate news stories and copy writing.
The post holder will be required to support and effectively use the University’s existing communication channels, such as corporate meetings, printed and/or e-newsletters, posters/leaflets and digital communication methods including the website and social media.
The post holder will be expected to follow best practice across all areas of internal communications and work in collaboration with the media and digital teams; as well as other colleagues from across the External, Engagement and Global Directorate, and beyond, to support the use of all relevant internal communications channels.
