Applications are invited for a post-doctoral Research Associate to join the group of Dr Matt Hoare within the new Early Cancer Institute on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. Our group is interested in why patients with chronic liver disease develop liver cancer (hoarelab.uk). This is an exciting opportunity to join an MRC-funded 2-year project, based on previous findings from the group (Brunner et al, Nature, 2019; Ng et al, Nature, 2021) and will further define how acquired somatic mutations of key metabolism genes impact on cell survival, liver cancer development and systemic metabolic dysfunction.
We are seeking to hire a motivated post-doctoral Research Associate with a background in epigenetics, cell biology, or cancer research to join the team. The successful candidate will join a pioneering research project investigating functional mechanisms and downstream consequences of recurrent somatic mutagenesis in chronic liver disease, in particular focusing on epigenetic remodelling. To deliver this project the successful candidate will use a variety of in vitro and in vivo techniques, using novel models of these acquired hepatocyte mutations.
The successful candidate will join a successful and collaborative group in a new institute focussed on cancer early detection (earlycancer.cam.ac.uk). In this post you will have the opportunity to develop your career, through cutting-edge research, interactions with great collaborators in the UK, Europe and the US and be placed on one of the largest biomedicine clusters in the UK.
Applicants should have, or be in the final stages of obtaining, a PhD in a relevant field (molecular biology, epigenetics, cancer, liver biology, or similar) with practical experience of cellular, molecular or cancer biology.
Prospective candidates are encouraged to contact Dr Hoare (mwh20@cam.ac.uk) directly when considering an application to discuss the project in greater detail.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 31 March 2026 in the first instance.
