About the role
We have an exciting opportunity within the Packaging and Design Section (PADS), Collections Management department of the Bodleian Libraries, for a Technician to join a supportive team of six who are leading providers in making custom archival/conservation boxes for internal Bodleian Libraries, the University of Oxford and external customers across the UK and worldwide and who also carry-out book-moves and book-cleaning projects within the University.
You will support the operations of the PADS team by flexibly performing a variety of tasks in response to customer demand. This will include operating and maintaining manual handling equipment (i.e. box-making machines and other equipment including pallet trucks), assembling boxes by hand, measuring material, involvement in stock takes and risk assessments, administrative tasks, data entry onto an Access database and answering of e-mails. In addition to this, you will be required to drive a van to deliver and collect material to Oxford and outside of the city.
This is a full-time, fixed-term position, working 36.5 hours per week for two years.
This role will require some heavy lifting, alongside working at height, lone working, working in hot and/or cold environments and driving on University business.
About You
Some experience in conservation and logistics is beneficial but not essential as full training will be provided on the job. A full clean driving licence is essential. Please specify your driving licence status in your application. Attention to detail is essential, as well as organisational skills, computer skills and ability to operate company-based software. You will also have a customer-focused aptitude, a “can do” flexible approach to work and be willing to work as part of a team.
Diversity
Our staff and students come from all over the world, and we proudly promote a friendly and inclusive culture. Diversity is positively encouraged, through diverse groups and champions, as well as a number of family-friendly policies, such as the right to apply for flexible working and support for staff returning from periods of extended absence, for example, shared parental leave.
How to apply
You will be required to upload your CV and a supporting evidence form using the attached template as part of your online application. Your supporting evidence form should list each of the essential and desirable selection criteria, as listed in the job description, and explain how you meet each one. CVs and/or supporting evidence forms submitted on their own will not be considered.
We aim to provide a supportive working environment and are happy to discuss training and professional development opportunities. The Chair of this recruitment panel will be Ann Evans, Head of Materials Budgets, who can be contacted with enquiries relating to the role (ann.evans@bodleian.ox.ac.uk).
