The English Faculty is seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Researcher to a 2.5-year fixed-term research post which will investigate the connections between attention, flourishing, and the humanities. It is anticipated that the appointee will take up the post on 1 September 2024.

As part of the Oxford Health Biomedical Research Centre’s research project funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research, this position will participate in the Flourishing theme of the project, which investigates how human flourishing can be fostered beyond clinical contexts, and in conjunction with nature. The successful applicant will also be a member of the team curating a 2026 exhibition at the Bodleian Library focussing on the history of natural history 1626-2026.

You will pursue your own independent research within this framework, working towards publication, and will participate in ongoing research and public engagement projects. Your proposed work will be around some aspect of attention studies in the Humanities, and should focus on either practices of attention to nature, or the cultivation of attention as an aspect of human flourishing.

You must possess a doctorate in a Humanities discipline, have a track record of outstanding research, and have a good publication record. You will ideally have experience of public engagement work.
