An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Research Associate to join the School of Biological Sciences to conduct studies on the reproductive strategies of fruit flies.
The aim of the project is to work with the Senior Research Associate on a project that aims to measure the benefits of different sexual strategies and to determine the conditions that allow them to coexist within populations. You will do this by assisting with experiments to (i) directly measure the success of sexual strategies in wild populations and in males engineered to adopt one or other sexual strategy, (ii) measure the form of selection acting on these strategies, and (iii) identify the underlying signatures at the level of the genome.
Key duties of the role are to work with the Senior Research Associate in delivering all the experiments. You will also oversee the routine maintenance of stocks and the running of the fruit fly facility.
You will have a good honours degree or equivalent in Biological Sciences or similar and must meet all the essential criteria listed in the person specification.
