The Opportunity:

We are looking for an enthusiastic Software Engineer to join our team and act as part of the development team which provides our award-winning national services to the UK higher education and schools markets. The post will be line managed by a Senior Software Engineer and report to our Head of Technical Operations. 

This post is an open-ended contract based at EDINA, University of Edinburgh. EDINA is a center of digital expertise providing EdTech solutions to the higher, further and school education sectors for decades with a national and international reputation.

The post is a hybrid one with the Software Engineer expected to be on campus in Edinburgh at least one day a week based. The team would prefer full time working hours (35 hrs per week) however are committed to offering flexible working options such as compressed hours or staggered start/finish times. 

What the job involves:

  • Front End development using modern design, automation and continuous delivery methods;
  • Backend Development for application so that infrastructure and API’s are resilient and consistent;           
  • Provide technical information for service and project owners so that they can estimate and consult correctly. 

Your skills and attributes for success: 

  • A degree in a relevant discipline with a substantial level of relevant work experience and/or a proven record of software development.
  • Significant experience of being part of a development team, ideally with experience within a higher education setting.
  • Significant experience of online web-based services and modern technology stacks. 
  • Excellent written, IT, presentational, and supervisory skills.
  • Ability to work individually and as part of a team.
  • Highly organised with an ability to plan for and work to fixed deadlines. 
  • Good problem-solving ability and able to demonstrate flexibility and adaptability.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills to conduct effective internal and external relations.
