The Centre for Geopolitics (CfG), a research centre within the Department of Politics and International Studies at the University of Cambridge, invites applications for a one-year, fixed-term post-doctoral Research Associate to pursue historically minded work on statecraft and strategy with the Ax:son Johnson Institute for Statecraft and Diplomacy (AJI), established by the Axel and Margaret Ax:son Johnson Foundation for Public Benefit.
The successful candidate will work under the direction of Professor Brendan Simms, the POLIS Director of CfG and a University of Cambridge UTO, and in collaboration with King's College, London, to implement the 'Engelsberg Applied History Programme' (EAHP). This will involve research on any area of geopolitics, past and present, although preference may be given to candidates researching European geopolitics and/or the formation of the United Kingdom. In addition, the appointee will be expected to oversee a series of activities, run a programme of events, and support the Centre's broader objectives through publications and outreach initiatives.
Due to the funding model, the researcher will be employed on a 1-year contract, renewable only when and if funding is in place.
This is a demanding position, which involves working in a fast-paced environment and requires a pro-active approach to research, as well as to the organisation of events and liaising with partners both within and outside the University.
Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD, or an equivalent research doctorate.
Salary ranges: Grade 7: £36,024-£44,263
