A position exists for a Research Assistant/Associate in the Department of Engineering to work on the development of scenarios for efficient, low cost construction, maintenance, repair and upgrade for the decarbonisation transition of the UK transport infrastructure. This is part of the Research Hub for Decarbonised Adaptable and Resilient Transport Infrastructures (DARe - https://dare.ac.uk/) with the aim of modelling the impacts of climate change and related scenarios on the performance of transport infrastructure assets and systems and bottom-up approach to reducing whole life carbon while maintaining asset performance. The successful candidate will join a large dynamic team of researchers across four universities.
The post holder will be located in the Civil Engineering Building in West Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK
The key responsibilities will include (i) data collection and life cycle assessments for asset management; (ii) data analysis and insights to integrate decarbonisation strategies into asset construction and maintenance practices; (iii) evaluations of implications of using low-carbon and durable materials on the long-term performance and maintenance of built assets; (iv) investigation of the processes and requirements for incorporating decarbonisation goals into decision-making frameworks for construction and asset management and (v) documenting research findings and presenting recommendations for establishing decarbonisation-focused decision-making protocols within asset management processes.
Applicants must have (or be close to obtaining) a PhD in Civil Engineering or a relevant discipline; to have excellent leadership, management, communication, organisational and problem solving skills; to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team and to engage with industry partners.
Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once the PhD has been awarded.
Salary Ranges: Research Assistant: £29,605 - £33,966, Research Associate: £36,024 - £44,263.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 14 months in the first instance.
