The role

The Research Administrator is based in the School Research Administration Team and works closely with the School Research Manager to provide high-level support to the School of Sociology, Politics and International Studies. You will be based on campus three days per week, two of which must be Monday and Wednesday to meet the needs of the School and to support School Research Committee and other meetings.

We are now able to offer a Full time appointment.

What will you be doing?

  • support the School Research Director, School Impact Director, Research Manager, Research Committee and Research Centres.
  • act as a first point of contact for enquiries from staff and Centre Assistants, and as a liaison point for all relevant internal and external contacts, advising colleagues and escalating issues as required.
  • administer and assist the development and improvement of team and REF processes, e.g. Research Approvals Process, School Research Funds, internal funding panels, grants pipeline, impact and environment data collection, and publication reviews.
  • general finance administration and budget tasks.
  • work to policies and create supporting guidance and templates.
  • plan and organise events and communications.

You should apply if

  • have a proven track record in administration – this is not an entry level administration role and previous experience is required.
  • can demonstrate excellent customer service and are confident communicating and building collaborative relationships with staff and stakeholders at all levels.
  • are highly organised and methodical with keen attention to detail.
  • have a proactive, flexible and supportive approach to work.
  • work well in a team but are also confident organising your own daily tasks to meet your/team objectives and deadlines.
  • are enthusiastic about and motivated to support social science research.
  • are confident using Microsoft Office tools for data analysis, as well as purchasing and web content management systems.
