Oxford University Department for Continuing Education (OUDCE) is looking for an experienced Systems Administrator and IT Support Specialist for our Technology-Assisted Lifelong Learning (TALL) unit.

About the role

Joining our friendly and highly creative online learning team, you will be responsible for maintaining the servers, systems and applications that support our online course delivery, as well as providing tier three technical support to students, tutors and staff.

You will be the senior administrator of our Virtual Learning Environment, a customised version of Moodle, as well as the infrastructure that supports it. You will be supported by a committed multidisciplinary team.

This is a full-time position, available on a permanent contract. We offer flexible hybrid work options. Most of our team is in the office at least two days a week. You’ll need to be able to attend on-site in the event of any serious outages.

About you

You will have professional experience of installation, management and system administration on Linux and managing a web application or service with large numbers of external users.

You will be experienced in the routine maintenance cycle required to keep production services running safely. It is also important that you are comfortable communicating clearly with non-technical colleagues and end users both verbally and in writing.

TALL is an innovative team that designs, produces, maintains and supports online courses across a wide range of disciplines. We create high-quality learning experiences for OUDCE and other departments in the University and undertake research and development in the technology and pedagogy of online learning to support this work. TALL currently has 20 members of staff.
