We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer (Grade 8) or Senior Lecturer (Grade 9) in Theoretical Physics. The post will be held in the Department of Mathematical Sciences, which is part of the School of Physical Sciences at the University of Liverpool.

You must have a PhD and an excellent track record of research in Theoretical Physics, including a sustained output of high-impact publications in established international journals. Research interests that have synergies with current expertise at Liverpool and a track record of securing external grant funding would be highly advantageous. For appointment at grade 9, you should have experience of teaching undergraduate mathematics or theoretical physics, supervising PhD students and/or post-doctoral researchers, and a sustained track record of securing substantial peer-reviewed grant income. The appointment will be subject to a three-year probationary period.

The School of Physical Sciences is working to create an inclusive environment which values a diverse workforce, and we recognise that many individuals value flexibility in their work/life balance. We particularly welcome applications from groups that are currently under-represented within the School of Physical Sciences. As an Athena Swan Silver Award holder, we are committed to gender equality. As an institution awarded the Race Equality Charter Bronze Award, we are dedicated to enhancing the representation, advancement, and achievement of minority ethnic staff members.

Duties:

  • Conduct research at an internationally excellent level in Theoretical Physics, producing publications of high scientific quality.
  • Apply for peer-reviewed grant funding and contribute to STFC Consolidated Grant proposals in Theoretical Physics.
  • Contribute to teaching by various methods of delivery, at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Theoretical Physics and Mathematics.
  • Supervise undergraduate projects and PhD students.
  • Undertake administrative roles commensurate with the grade as required.

In terms of responsibilities and recognition, the UK positions of Lecturer and Senior Lecturer are equivalent to those of Assistant Professor and Associate Professor, respectively, in US-style systems.

The interviews and presentations will most likely take place in September 2024.
