About the Role

For informal enquiries, please contact Dr Caroline Kuzemko at c.kuzemko.1@warwick.ac.uk or Professor Juanita Elias at juanita.elias@warwick.ac.uk.

Applications are invited for an indefinite Assistant/Associate Professorship in the Politics of Climate Change in the Department of Politics and International Studies (PAIS) at the University of Warwick to start in September 2024. The appointment will either be made at FA7 or FA8 of the University of Warwick salary scale; this will be based on experience and the candidate’s ability to meet the appropriate person specification. Candidates are asked to specify the level they wish to be considered for.

PAIS is expanding its teaching and research excellence in the area of climate change. This builds upon significant expertise. This post will play a critical role in the continued expansion of our activity in this area, especially in the politics of climate change. We are looking for an exceptional researcher and teacher who can complement our existing teaching and research strengths by adding a new area of expertise, such as one of the following: the politics of global climate governance; international relations and climate change; the politics of climate change, energy transitions or adaptation in the Global South; the politics of sustainable transformations in agriculture, transport, buildings or industry; ecofeminist and/or gendered approaches to the study of environmental politics. We particularly welcome applications from scholars with a research focus on states and regions of the Global South.

The successful candidate will join our Environmental Politics cluster, which includes experts on: ethics, justice and democracy; environmental and climate security; the Anthropocene; mitigation, adaptation and loss and damage; the party politics of climate change; the politics and international political economy of sustainable energy transformations; and environmental politics. Our scholars approach these issues from a range of perspectives - including political theory, political science, political sociology, public policy, and international political economy perspectives. We are a methodologically pluralist department and welcome all different approaches to the study of climate change politics.

About You

The successful candidate will have an international reputation [or for an Assistant Prof appointment, be building an international reputation] and will deliver world-leading research publications in distinguished journals and presses. You will be expected to develop high-quality bids for external research funding and demonstrate a commitment to achieving non-academic impact.

In addition, the post-holder will be expected to design and teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules, including the core module in our MA in the Politics of Climate Change, ‘9 Ideas in Climate Politics’. You will also have the opportunity to help shape our curriculum on climate change politics going forward. Additionally, you will support the supervision of dissertations at UG and PGT levels.

You will have a track record of and/or lived experience of addressing Equality, Diversity and Inclusion issues in the workplace, as well as a commitment to decolonising the curriculum and teaching practices. An active commitment to anti-racist and/or alternative critical pedagogies is highly desirable.
