Job Summary

The post holder will work on large electronic health record datasets and epidemiological studies to emulate clinical trials designs and study the effects of pharmacological treatments on diverse neurological outcomes including Alzheimer’s Disease. There will be opportunities to also investigate the effect of pharmacological treatments through molecular epidemiology approaches such as drug target Mendelain Randomization. 

The post offers excellent training opportunities for ambitious, well-motivated scientists who will be undertaking research across one of the UK’s leading research departments in epidemiology and data science with internationally recognised portfolio of translational research in epidemiology and neuroscience. 

Duties and responsibilities 

We are looking for a self-motivated epidemiologist/ statistician/ data scientist, with an advanced degree in epidemiology, medical statistics, or relevant quantitative discipline, and demonstrable experience handling large complex medical/health research datasets and strong statistical knowledge and skills. You will be expected to: 

  • To undertake complex epidemiological/statistical analysis of health and exposure data, using appropriate statistical software, as directed by senior researchers
  • To maintain accurate and complete records of all findings
  • To ensure the validity and reliability of data at all times
  • To undertake literature searches and critical reviews of evidence in support of the project programme
  • To write scientific papers and to publish in high quality journals
  • To prepare and present research material to peers, collaborators, funders, or at national and international conferences

Essential requirements

You must

  • Hold a PhD in Epidemiology or Biostatistics or a closely related quantitative discipline
  • Demonstrable experience of the statistical analysis of large scale complex epidemiological data
  • Have a solid understanding of epidemiological concepts and techniques that apply to a wide range of study designs
  • Knowledge of research methods and statistical procedures relevant to epidemiology
  • Experience of preparing large datasets for analysis (running database queries, checking, and cleaning data, etc.)

Hybrid working may be considered for this role. Staff working in roles that are suitable for hybrid working will normally be expected to work 60% of their time onsite. The opportunity for hybrid working will be discussed at interview.
